I've toyed with the idea of blogging for some time. As a center-libertarian in academia, I have a lot to say that generally goes unsaid. I lived through eight years of insane Bush hatred, and now I'm living through what I hope is only four years of insane Obama worship.
All of my colleagues are statists, and none of them seem to have learned any of the lessons contained in the dystopian works with which they are all intimately familiar. And their dislike (I hesitate to say "hatred") and contempt for the west and the western tradition poisons even those classes in which taking any political stance is completely unwarranted.
I try to be a voice of moderation whenever possible, but my efforts garner minimal success, especially among a student population that has already been indoctrinated into what is essentially a Marxist view of the world.
I took on the identity of Number 6 not so much because I'm trying to escape The Village, but because I want to be the voice of dissent in The Village. I guess there is still a part of me that believes that maybe the individual can be Number 1, can control his or her own destiny and throw off the chains of collectivism that seem to be growing tighter and tighter.
"The Tally-Ho" was The Village newspaper. In co-opting it's name, I voice my intention to provide a different source of news from inside the academy. And I also voice my intention to utilize the methods of analysis championed in the academy on world events, whether or not such an analysis furthers my own political agenda.
As the days go on, I'll link to some of those blogs that have most influenced me, and try to spruce the place up a little.
